WITAN SHRINES

In addition to Temples and Proto-Temples, the Correllian Tradition recognizes three kinds of Shrine: Personal Shrines, which are a private religious expression of the Shrine Keeper by may be recognized by the Tradition: Formal Shrines, which are Chartered by the Tradition to fulfill specific functions: and Witan Shrines, which are the first stage in the Temple-making process. Witan Shrines were originally created as a form to allow a trial period for prospective new Temples, to help them become ready to function as full Temples and to make sure that they could function within the structure of the Tradition.
Subsequently an additional step was added to the Temple making process in the form of Proto-Temples. Witan Shrines must fulfill a probationary period of a MINIMUM one year before being reviewed for Proto-Temple status. The reviews are carried out by the Templar Grand Deemstress and specially appointed boards of Deemsters in conjunction with the Tradition's Lustration ceremonies in the Spring and Fall of the year.
The first Witan Shrines in the Correllian Tradition were Chartered on 7 April Year 2 Aquarius. These were the LaVeda Witan Shrine in Australia, the Crystalline Star Witan Shrine in Ohio, US, and the Phoenix Rising Witan Shrine in Canada. Of these the Crystalline Star Witan Shrine went on to full Temple status, being thus proclaimed by the Chancellor on 30 March, Year 3 Aquarius.
